Heart Leather Bag & Backpack Pattern – PDF & DXF Template

Make your own heart-shaped leather shoulder bag or backpack with this downloadable PDF and DXF pattern. The design gives you several ways to build the same distinctive heart-shaped body, including three different gusset depths so you can choose how slim or spacious you want the finished bag to be.

The pattern is suitable for traditional hand cutting and hand stitching, while the included DXF files also make it compatible with laser cutting.

About the Design

The finished project can be made as:

• Heart-shaped shoulder bag
• Heart-shaped crossbody bag
• Heart-shaped backpack

The pattern includes three gusset depths:

• 8 cm / 3.14 in
• 10 cm / 3.93 in
• 12 cm / 4.72 in

The bag has no interior pocket.

The main compartment is fastened with zips and two snap fasteners.

The pattern does not include a shoulder strap template, as the original design uses a ready-made strap.

Finished Size

Heart-shaped body:

• Width at widest point: 27 cm / 10.62 in
• Height: 22 cm / 8.66 in

Strap or backpack shoulder straps can be made to your preferred length.

Recommended Leather

Recommended leather:

• 2.2–2.4 mm / approximately 5–6 oz vegetable-tanned leather

Approximate leather required:

• 80 × 55 cm
• 31.49 × 21.65 in

Additional leather is required if you make your own backpack straps.

• Ready-made bag strap
• 4 × 15 cm zips
• 2 × 20 mm D-rings
• 2 × 12 mm snap fasteners

Backpack

• 4 × 15 cm zips
• 4 × 20 mm D-rings
• 2 × 20 mm buckles
• 4 × 20 mm trigger hooks
• 2 × 12 mm snap fasteners

Hardware is not included.

Tools

Basic leatherworking tools are required:

• Craft knife
• Hole punch
• Edge beveller
• Two stitching needles
• Hammer or mallet

For the printable PDF version, we recommend using a single-hole punch because very small differences in hole spacing can occur depending on printer settings.
